Drivers
We need volunteer drivers to both pick up and deliver food for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. We currently have a group of drivers that help with this process regularly, but would like to expand. Volunteer drivers must have a clean driving record. To volunteer or for more information contact Patrick Bird at 319-235-0507 ext. 118 or pbird@feedingamerica.org.
How do I volunteer?
Fill out our online volunteer sign up. You can also contact Patrick Bird, Volunteer Coordinator, at pbird@feedingamerica.org or by phone at (319) 235-0507 ext. 118. Before you volunteer you must also fill out a Volunteer Information Sheet. Click here to download the form. Fill it out and bring it with you when you come.
Community Service
Community Service workers must fill out a Community Service Information Sheet before coming to the Food Bank to work. Click here to download the form. All Community Service workers must also attend an orientation. Orientation takes place every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
When can I volunteer?
You can volunteer at the Food Bank any time Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and scheduled Saturdays from 9:00am - 12:00pm. If you wish to volunteer at other times, please contact Patrick Bird in advance.
What volunteer opportunities are available?
Upcoming Annual Events
Assist with Combat Hunger at local grocery stores, during the last weekend in March.
Other Annual Events
Help with Empty Bowls every other year.
Unload and sort food donations for the annual National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger! Food Drive in May
Help at the Hearth Fest live music event in August.
Assist with Hunger Action Month events each September.
Wrap gifts at College Square Mall in the weeks between Thanksgiving Day and December 24th.
Volunteer as a Group
Volunteer with your friends, family, or coworkers. Volunteering at the Food Bank is a great service project for church groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
Volunteer at the Food Bank
You can volunteer for as little as an hour or for an entire day. Volunteers are always needed and are greatly appreciated!
Pack meal sacks, senior nutrition boxes, elderly weekend bags, and backpacks for the BackPack Program (formerly Operation Family Pack)
Stock pantry shelves with both food and non-food items
Fill pantry orders and give food directly to clients
File, stuff envelopes, or data entry
Deliver to organizations and pick up donated items from area businesses
Sort items and stock shelves in the agency shopping area
Volunteer at a Kids Cafe site
