Elderly Nutrition Programs
The Elderly Nutrition Box program currently provides over 850 boxes to residents in Northeast Iowa each month. About 650 supplemental nutrition boxes are delivered throughout thirteen counties to home-bound elderly who are identified through the Hawkeye Valley, Scenic Valley and Elderbridge Area Agencies on Aging. In Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Evansdale, roughly 200 supplemental nutrition boxes are delivered to elderly and disabled residents through low-income housing complexes.
Elderly Weekend Bags are provided to seniors attending congregate meal programs at senior centers in 11 counties. Each bag includes foods that seniors can use to prepare a complete meal over the weekend when congregate meal sites are closed. Each month the Northeast Iowa Food Bank distributes Elderly Weekend Bags to over 850 seniors.
