Join other awesome people like you who contributed more than 35,000 hours last year, making it possible for us to distribute more than 7 million pounds of food.  It’s easy, fun, and volunteerism makes it possible for us to get the work done.

Food Bank volunteers contribute to our mission in many valuable ways. Volunteers work in the warehouse; inspect, sort, and pack food; help in the office, and more.

Volunteer Groups

We are happy to host groups of people coming together from work, church or school.  We can host groups up to ideally 20 people but special arrangements can be made for groups bigger than 20.  For youth groups ages 12-15 we require one adult chaperone per 3 children, and one adult present for every 6 youth, ages 16 and 17.

Getting organized requires some special scheduling. To explore the possibility of scheduling a group, contact Dan Bohnker at dbohnker@feedingamerica.org or 319-235-0507.

Kids and Youth Volunteers

We know that many families want to volunteer together, and that school-aged children and young adults are also eager to help.  To ensure the safety of volunteers in an active warehouse setting, volunteers ages 12 to 15 must to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while volunteering. Volunteers age 16 and above may work without an accompanying adult (exceptions exist for youth groups – see above).

Community Service

Have you been referred to us by the local or state court system for court ordered community service?  Contact Maddie Christensen at mchristensen@northeastiowafoodbank.org 319-235-0507.

Do you want to volunteer but you can’t always make it down to the Food Bank?  We have great news!  You can volunteer to help spread the word about hunger and our mission right from the comfort of your couch by becoming a NEIFB Social Media Ambassador!
